“The words from “Ya Got Trouble” (Music Man) keeping repeating in my head.
“Right here in River City. Trouble with a capital T, and that rhymes with P, and that stands for pool! And who’s the fool?”
Maybe the image fits — a stereotypical western rube chewing on a straw in River City. Think about it. We have handed Stephen Harper unwavering and unquestioning support.
He is one of us, our very own “Professor” Harold Hill. Oops, but Harper was educated and grew up in Ontario.
Our Steve was gonna destroy that hated gun control law. Wrong again. Who prorogued Parliament twice and called an election in 2008? And who keeps reintroducing gun bills?
This year there were three before Parliament, C-301 (Garry Breitkreuz did not show up for second reading on orders from “Da Boss”), S-5 (introduced in the Senate by Peter Van Loan and held back by Harper for tactical reasons) and Candice Hoeppner’s private members’ Bill C-391.
Of these, only C-391 goes before Parliament for third reading near the end of September. Wanna bet we have an election, or enough Conservatives down with H1N1 (oops, last year’s excuse) that it goes down to defeat?
After nearly five years in power, Harper has strangely (ha, ha) not been able to shepherd a little bill through Parliament. Why would he? His party is against gun control. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.
Are we not smart enough to realize we are being played?
